From here comes the role of the Clinical Nutrition Department and its impact in the field of health services and the improvement of the health of patients by receiving nutritional care and awareness of nutritional culture.
Therapeutic nutrition plays an important role in treating critical illness cases and patients suffering from stomach diseases, malnutrition, food allergies, obesity and others.
Medical nutrition is a therapeutic approach to treating medical illnesses and related symptoms by following a specific diet formulated and followed up by a registered dietitian. This diet is based on the patient's medical and psychosocial history, as well as medical examinations and the patient's diet history.
Clinical nutrition is one of the important disciplines in applied medical professions; Because of its effective and distinctive role in dealing with healthy and sick cases, especially after the spread of diseases related to nutrition and lifestyle at the global level, such as: obesity, diabetes, and heart diseases.
The department is concerned with providing students with the best educational and training opportunities, public morals, and professional ethics; To prepare qualified and well-trained cadres to meet the needs of the local labor market in the field of therapeutic nutrition, and also aims to achieve excellence in the quality of graduates at the local and regional levels, in order to educate the community, achieve a healthy lifestyle, and promote sound social behavior.
The therapeutic nutrition program requires regular study for four years, including the preparatory year, after which the student graduates on completion of 136 credit hours.
The study plan is characterized by the richness of specialized courses in therapeutic nutrition, as well as the flow of courses and their advanced content, allowing students to use and employ their previous knowledge and knowledge to pursue the advanced courses.
The program holds the highest scientific content compared to the same major in foreign universities; This supports students' achievement, and deepens their knowledge and expertise in the field.
In order for the student to be allowed to practice the profession of Clinical Nutritionist, she must spend a full one-year training period at the University Hospital, or any other accredited hospital.
The inception of the department
The Department of clinical Nutrition was first established along with the early establishment of the University College in 1435-1436 AH, and the admission of female students started at the beginning of the academic year 1435-1436 AH in the first academic semester of 2015 with the provision of all necessary equipment, materials and classrooms to provide sufficient education and training. Laboratories for medical sciences were also provided as well as faculty members who are highly educated in order to prepare qualified graduates in clinical nutrition science who help meeting the country’s needs and enhance the nutritional status of individuals, families, and community.
Mission
The mission of the clinical Nutrition Department at University College of Abu-Arish is to provide a distinguished clinical nutrition program to qualify competent clinical dietitians to cover the needs of the community to improve the nutritional care of the patients and to increase the community awareness in nutrition–related problems. Scientific research is conducted in the field of clinical nutrition to develop the lifestyles of the community members.
