A member of the faculty at Jazan University, Dr. Ismail bin Ibrahim Abu Alout, a consultant ophthalmologist, who holds a German fellowship and member of European Board in Ophthalmology, participated in the activities of the World Sight Day 2020, during the awareness educational week under the slogan “Towards a better vision”.
Dr. Abu Alout talked about the “white water” eye disease, and informed that it is the main cause of vision deficiency and blindness, noting that more than 20 million operations are performed annually worldwide due to the disease.

Dr. Abu Alout reviewed an anatomy of the eye from the inside, and how “white water” is formed inside the eye, indicating that it has several types, shapes and symptoms, indicating that among the causes of infection is prolonged exposure and no protection to direct sunlight or exposure to high temperatures, and health problems. Other reasons can be: infections and wounds in the eyes, as well as diabetes, obesity, and high blood pressure.

Dr. Abu Alout stated that one of the factors that can prevent “white water” is to quit smoking, keep blood sugar levels under control for diabetics, and to make sure to wear sunglasses when going out during the day, in addition to following a healthy diet.

Dr. Abu Alout indicated that the “white water” operation does not exceed a quarter of an hour, and is available in most regions of the Kingdom and is performed surgically using “FICO” ultrasound.
